British Legion and Services Rendered Club

Following the Great War the Navy Arms pub in the High Street became the “Discharged Soldiers’ & Sailors’ Federation.” This federation allowed the women workers of the Dockyard and nearby barracks to be members. However, the British Legion, who took over the establishment in 1923, did not allow women members. This problem was soon overcome by renaming it the British Legion “& Services Rendered Club.”
