The Battle of the Somme, 1916

The Battle of the Somme is famous chiefly on account of the loss of 58,000 British troops, nearly 20.000 believed to have been killed on the first day of the battle on the1st July 1916.

The attack was launched  from north of the Somme river between Arras and Albert, it lasted from 1st July until 18th of  November before it was called off.
