William Mattocks

From a copy of the Kentish Gazette, mid May 1815

LOST

STRAYED away from Brompton on Wednesday Morning the 3rd Instant

A YOUNG MAN

About 23 years of Age. Short and slender made, small and fair face, rather pitted with smallpox. Had on when he left home, a black coat, light waistcoat, blue knit pantaloons and boots.
Being insane and much troubled with fits, he is unable to give satisfactory account of himself, but will to most questions answer William Mattocks nineteen and twenty.

Whoever will have the goodness to give information of the said Young Man to his Mother MARY MATTOCKS, near the White Swan, Wood Street, Brompton, shall have the best thanks of a poor Widow.

Have just read about William, have checked my family tree and do not think that we are related.  I come from the Rainham Mattocks stock. There is only one Mattocks showing with the name Wiiliam and he was born 1886 and died 1888’ a very short life, but one of 11siblings. Very interesting story though.
